NSW Government Commits $100,000 to Support The Man Walk and Men’s Mental Health
The Man Walk is delighted to announce a significant boost to our mission, thanks to the NSW Government’s $100,000 commitment to support men’s mental health across the state. This funding will enable us to expand our reach, enhance existing programs, and provide even greater support to men who may be struggling with mental health challenges.
The Man Walk was created to foster supportive relationships and improve men’s physical and mental health through simple yet powerful means: regular walks, meaningful conversations, and a sense of community. Our walks provide men with a welcoming, stigma-free environment to connect with like-minded individuals, combat isolation, and take steps, both literally and figuratively, toward better health.
With 40 walk locations across NSW, stretching from Albury in the south to Tweed Heads in the north, The Man Walk is committed to reaching men in regional and urban areas alike.
The funding from the NSW Government comes at a time of significant growth for The Man Walk. Over the past three months, we’ve welcomed 5,000 walkers, including 300 brand-new participants, who have collectively taken over 2.3 billion steps toward better health.
The $100,000 grant will be instrumental in:
Mark Burns, Founder and CEO of The Man Walk, expressed deep gratitude for the support:
“The Man Walk charity is extremely grateful for this $100,000 grant and the long-term backing from Minister Ryan Park and the NSW Government. This funding will allow us to reach more men, provide critical resources, and continue building stronger communities.”
Mark also highlighted the incredible impact of our walks:
“We have thousands of men walking regularly, starting their day with connection and purpose. This grant will help us provide more opportunities for men to feel supported and part of something meaningful.”
Minister for Health Ryan Park commended The Man Walk for its ability to break down barriers and foster community-based support:
“The Man Walk Australia creates a welcoming environment for men to get together, feel part of a community, and get active. This funding will help the charity reach even more men across NSW, offering a positive space free from stigma or pressure.”
Minister for Mental Health Rose Jackson echoed this sentiment, emphasising the importance of addressing social isolation:
“Suicide is the leading cause of death for men aged 15-44, and loneliness is a major contributor to mental health distress. Community organisations like The Man Walk are essential lifelines, providing spaces for men to connect and feel less alone.”
The Man Walk will provide regular updates to Minister Park and NSW Health on the positive outcomes this grant will deliver for men, their families, and their communities. Together, we will continue to walk toward a future where no man feels alone in his mental health journey.
